Pass durations available for Naples
Conet Pass for Naples is available in the following options:
- One-way ticket: valid for 90 minutes from the moment of first validation, covering a single journey across metro, bus, tram or funicular. Useful for a single trip, but not for multiple journeys across a day.
- 1-day pass: valid for 24 hours from first use. If you first use it on a Friday at 10:00 am, it remains valid until Saturday at 10:00 am.

Validity runs continuously, including overnight. There is no cut-off at midnight, the pass stays active for the full counted hours from the moment you first tap in.
Important: all tickets are personal and non-transferable. Validation is required both at entry and exit on metro gates. Children aged 5 and under travel free when accompanied by a paying adult. From age 6 a separate ticket is required.
When does the validity start — purchase date or first use?
The Naples Conet Pass is valid from first use, not from the date of purchase. However, you must enter your correct arrival date at the time of purchase, as tickets can only be downloaded from that date onwards. Make sure the date you enter matches the day you plan to start travelling in Naples.
How the funiculars work in practice
The funiculars are one of the most practical parts of getting around Naples, and one of the most frequently misunderstood. They are not a tourist attraction in themselves — they are a working part of the city’s transport network, used daily by residents to move between the lower city and the Vomero district on the hill above.
- Funicolare Centrale is the most useful for visitors. It connects Via Toledo, near the Municipio metro stop, directly up to Vomero — where you find Castel Sant’Elmo, the Certosa di San Martino and some of the best views over the Bay of Naples. Journey time is around 3 minutes.
- Funicolare di Chiaia departs from Via del Parco Margherita in the Chiaia neighborhood and also terminates in Vomero.
- Funicolare di Montesanto connects Piazza Montesanto, close to the Spanish Quarters, to the upper part of the city.
- Hours vary by line and day. The Centrale runs Monday and Tuesday from 07:00 to 22:30, extends to 00:30 on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and operates until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday. Check current timetables via the Moovit app before planning an evening journey, as hours change seasonally.
Metro, bus and tram: operating hours and coverage
- Metro and surface services run from approximately 06:00 to 23:00 daily. At busy times trains run frequently; at quieter times gaps can reach 10 to 15 minutes.
- Buses fill the coverage gaps that metro and funiculars leave. For areas like Posillipo, the waterfront, Fuorigrotta and the neighborhoods east of the center, buses are the primary option. Validate your pass immediately when boarding, inspectors check regularly, and the fine for travelling without a validated ticket is substantial.
- Trams are slower than the metro due to city traffic, but practical for moving along the seafront and accessing the eastern districts.

Every Naples day pass includes a one-way journey to or from Capodichino Airport, approximately 7 km from the city center. The shuttle ticket operates as an open-date ticket — you can use it on any day, regardless of when your urban pass is active.
You decide the direction when you use it: from the airport into the city on arrival, or from the city to the airport on departure. One ticket, one journey, your choice.
The shuttle drops off near Piazza Municipio, which sits on top of the Line 1 metro network and within walking distance of the port area. A single taxi from Capodichino typically costs more than the value of the included shuttle, so this benefit alone makes the day pass financially competitive even for light transport users.
Getting to Pompeii and beyond
Naples is the most practical base for day trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. These destinations are served by separate regional rail operators, the Circumvesuviana connects Naples Garibaldi station to Pompeii and Sorrento, and are not covered by any Conet Pass option.
