What is covered by the Amsterdam Conet Pass
The Amsterdam Conet Pass gives unlimited access to the entire GVB network within the city. GVB is the public transport operator of Amsterdam, running metro, tram, bus and ferry services across the city and its metropolitan area. This includes:
- Metro: four lines (51, 52, 53, 54, 55) connecting the city center with outer districts and suburbs. Key stops: Amsterdam Centraal (all lines), De Pijp (line 52), Amsterdam Zuid (lines 51, 52), Bijlmer ArenA (line 54).
- Trams: 16 routes covering the historic center, museum quarter, Jordaan, De Pijp, Oud-West and outer neighborhoods. Trams are the most useful mode for moving across the city center, where the metro network is less dense. Key routes: line 2 and 12 for Museumplein, line 4 for Leidseplein, line 13 and 17 for the Jordaan.
- Buses: the full GVB urban bus network, including night buses. Buses connect neighborhoods not served by tram or metro, and the night bus network covers the city after tram and metro services finish.
- Ferry: free GVB ferry crossings between Amsterdam Centraal and Amsterdam Noord. The ferries run continuously and are included in the pass. They are the fastest connection to the NDSM Wharf area.
- Airport shuttle: every day pass includes a one-way journey to or from Schiphol Airport via Connexxion Amsterdam Airport Express, bus line 397. The night service (N97 Niteliner) is also covered.
- Bike sharing: every pass includes bike sharing with Donkey Bike.
Not included: NS trains (Dutch national rail), regional Connexxion and EBS buses outside the GVB network, intercity services. The GVB pass covers Amsterdam city only, journeys to other Dutch cities require a separate ticket. Please note the pass is not valid for travel to or from Zaandam.
How the GVB network works in practice
The GVB network operates from approximately 6:00 am to midnight daily. Night buses take over from around midnight until the morning service resumes. Trams and buses run frequently during daytime hours, with intervals of 5 to 12 minutes on main routes.
The OV-chipkaart is the standard fare payment system in Amsterdam. With a Conet Pass, you receive a digital GVB ticket that works independently of the OV-chipkaart — no top-up or Dutch bank account required.
Check in and check out on all GVB services using the yellow card readers at metro gates, tram doors and bus entry points. Always check out when leaving — failing to check out results in a maximum fare deduction.

The metro: four lines, key stops for visitors
- Line 51: Isolatorweg to Centraal Station and south to Amstelveen. Useful for Amsterdam Zuid and the RAI convention center.
- Line 52: Noord/Buikslotermeerplein to Amsterdam Zuid via Centraal Station and De Pijp. The most useful line for visitors: it connects Amsterdam Noord, Centraal Station, the city center, De Pijp and Amsterdam Zuid in a single line.
- Line 53: Gaasperplas to Centraal Station. Connects the southeastern suburbs and Bijlmer ArenA (Johan Cruijff ArenA, Ziggo Dome) with the center.
- Line 54: Gein to Centraal Station via Bijlmer ArenA and Amsterdam Amstel.
Line 55: Amsterdam Centraal to Amsterdam Zuid. A direct connection between the central station and the business and museum district.
Amsterdam Centraal is the main hub for all metro lines, all ferry services, and connections to NS intercity trains. It is also the closest metro stop to the historic canal ring, Dam Square and the Anne Frank House.
Trams: the best way to move across the center
The tram network is the backbone of surface transport in Amsterdam’s historic center, where streets are narrow and a metro station is not always within walking distance. Key tram routes for visitors:
- Line 2 and 12 connect Centraal Station to Leidseplein and Museumplein (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum). Essential for the museum quarter.
- Line 4 runs from Centraal Station through the city center to De Pijp and beyond.
- Line 13 and 17 connect Centraal Station westward through the Jordaan neighborhood and toward Oud-West.
Trams run from approximately 6:00 am to midnight. After midnight, night buses on corresponding routes take over.
The airport shuttle: included, one direction, fixed date
Every Amsterdam day pass includes a one-way journey to or from Schiphol Airport via Connexxion Amsterdam Airport Express, bus line 397. The shuttle ticket has a fixed date matching the date on which you download it. It cannot be used on a different day.
You choose the direction when you use it: from the airport into the city on arrival, or from the city to the airport on departure.
At Schiphol Airport, buses depart from bus stop B15–B19, located directly outside the main arrivals hall (Plaza). In the city, the main terminal is Busstation Elandsgracht.
Key stops along route 397: Schiphol Airport — Amstelveenseweg — Olympisch Stadion — Haarlemmermeerstation — Emmastraat — Museumplein — Rijksmuseum — Leidseplein — Busstation Elandsgracht.
The service runs daily from 5:30 am to midnight. The N97 Niteliner operates the same route hourly between midnight and 5:30 am and is also covered by the pass. Journey time from the airport to Leidseplein or Elandsgracht is approximately 30 minutes.

Choosing the right pass duration
If you are spending a full day in Amsterdam — the museum quarter, Jordaan, canal ring and a ferry crossing to Noord — the 1-day pass covers every journey without counting individual fares.
For 2 or 3 days, the pass makes clear financial sense once you factor in the airport shuttle. A single taxi from Schiphol to the city center costs considerably more than the included shuttle, so visitors who travel even lightly across the city typically come out ahead.
The 7-day pass suits visitors staying for a full week or those who want a single pass for all urban journeys across an extended stay.
